GEOGRAPHIC POSITION AND NATURAL RESOURCES

The Municipality and the city of Šabac are situated in the northern part of north-west Serbia. This geographical position is very favourable as it places the municipality at the intersection of main land, rail, and water ways and close to big urban centres such as Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Šabac municipality spreads across 795 km2 and has 122.320 inhabitants. 70.000 of them live in the city itself and its immediate suburbs. The main economic potentials include fertile agricultural land and waters of the rivers Sava and Drina, which contribute to multiple trades - industry, water industry, agriculture, fluvial traffic and tourism. The city of Šabac has always been the economic and cultural centre of Podrinje and the wider area.

CLIMATE

Šabac enjoys a mild continental climate. Due to its openness towards the Panonic flatlands, the lower parts of Šabac in the north are influenced by the Panonic continental climate, while the hilly and mountainous parts of up to 700 m altitude in the south and south-west have a mountain climate. Precipitation is an important climatic element. Besides air temperature, it is vital to survival of the flora. Annual and territorial precipitation highs and lows vary. Precipitation increases going from north-east towards south and south-west.

WATERS, GEOLOGICAL FEATURES AND MINERAL WEALTH

Šabac is surrounded by water ways of the rivers Sava and Drina. In its flat part a system of ducts draining water from under-marsh areas has been built. The area also has mineral and balmy springs of which some have been thoroughly analyzed and some still remain to be investigated. The mineral wealth of the area is also versatile and includes quartz sand, clay, and other raw materials used in construction that may be found in the northern part of the region.
